Last Updated on November 8, 2024

In order to setup a custom IP you must own a domain name. A domain name can be purchased from any registrar, but this guide is written using Namecheap.

A custom domain allows you to have a professional looking server address such as example.net or play.example.net. This also makes your server address more memorable, meaning players are more likely to return!

  1. 1

  2. 2

Select your domain and click Manage.

  3. 3

    Click Advanced DNS.

  4. 4

Click Add New Record, then enter the following information:

    - Record Type: A Record
    - Host: Customizable, enter '@' to use the apex domain (e.g. example.com), or 'mc' to use a subdomain (e.g. mc.example.com)
    - Value: Your server's IP address, without the port.

  5. 5

Click the green checkmark to create the record.

It can take up to 48 hours for your domain to function stably.

With a dedicated IP:
If you have a  dedicated IP, you are not required to make a SRV record, as you have Minecraft Java's default port.

Without a dedicated IP:
You will need to create an SRV record in order to make players connect to the correct port.

Revivenode does not provide assistance with setting up SRV records as they can be unreliable, however an example SRV record has been provided below.

  • Value: _minecraft

  • Protocol: _tcp

  • Priority: 0

  • Weight: 5

  • Port: Your Minecraft server's port

  • Target: <Host of your A record>.<Your domain name>.

  • TTL: Automatic
